Description

Start With the Facts

You can’t protect what you haven’t measured. The Baseline Bundle gives your lake its first clear, current health profile — replacing guesswork with data. For lakes without recent or reliable measurements, this is the essential first step.

Build a Defensible Foundation

Every grant application, treatment plan, or restoration effort depends on credible baseline data. This bundle establishes the core parameters (nutrients, oxygen, clarity, chemistry) that define your lake’s condition today — creating a benchmark you can track, defend, and build from over time.

Enable Smarter Decisions

With a structured baseline in place, your lake moves from reactive discussions to informed action. You’ll understand what’s happening, where to focus, and how to prioritize next steps — whether that’s deeper diagnostics, active management, or preparing for funding.

What problem does this solve?

Uncertainty About Lake Health

Many lake communities don’t have a clear understanding of current conditions. You may suspect harmful algae, nutrient overload, or other water quality issues — but without reliable data, it’s difficult to separate real risks from perception.

Fragmented Data, No Clear Baseline

Historical reports and scattered measurements don’t add up to a usable picture. Without a consistent baseline, you can’t identify trends, prioritize issues, or confidently plan next steps.

Hesitation Slows Progress

When the picture is unclear, it’s hard to justify spending or commit to larger interventions. This bundle provides a cost-effective, streamlined way to build confidence, close data gaps, and take the first real step toward informed lake stewardship.

What's included?

How Lake Pulse Bundles Work
  1. Choose & Commit: Subscriber selects a bundle and pays a $50 discovery fee.
  2. Quick Intake: Short questionnaire captures key lake details and goals.
  3. Discovery Call: 30-minute focused call to understand your lake and define needs. The $50 Discovery Call is the primary mechanism for reducing bespoke overhead. It replaces expensive email back-and-forth with a single structured conversation — and it produces the specific inputs the Boathouse needs to write an accurate, actionable quote.
  4. Custom Quote: Tailored proposal delivered within 5 days.
  5. Review & Approve: Subscriber reviews and accepts when ready.
  6. Activate: Payment processed, kits/tools deployed, support assigned.
  7. Deliver: Boathouse executes: sampling, analysis, and clear outputs.
What's discussed in the 30-min Discovery call?
  • Lake Snapshot & Data Review: Review your lake’s known conditions, past data (if any), and key concerns to understand current knowledge and gaps.
  • Testing & Monitoring Plan & Next Steps: Define the right baseline parameters, sampling locations, and approach to build a clear, cost-effective starting point.

Results

Scientifically Defensible Starting Point

A clear, documented baseline that establishes the current condition of your lake using rigorous scientific methods.

Full Water Column Understanding

Comprehensive insight into both chemical and physical conditions throughout the water column, not just surface-level observations.

Identification of Key Concerns

Clear identification of which parameters are elevated, shifting, or potentially problematic—so issues are not missed or guessed.

Prioritized Management Roadmap

A structured, practical set of next steps ranked by importance and impact, so decision-making is focused and efficient.

Stronger Future Decisions & Funding Applications

All future bundles, grant applications, and management actions become more credible and targeted because they are built on a validated baseline.

Second-Tier Add-Ons (Based on Initial Findings)

Based on early results, the Boathouse may recommend expanding the assessment with targeted follow-up analyses. These can include chlorophyll-a and phycocyanin testing to better understand algal presence and activity, as well as detailed algal community identification through lab analysis. Additional ecosystem-level insights may be gathered through zooplankton analysis and plant distribution mapping. If watershed inputs are suspected to be influencing lake conditions, tributary sampling may also be added to pinpoint external nutrient or sediment sources.

Science & Sampling Notes

To ensure a meaningful and scientifically valid lake profile, samples must be collected at both the surface and the bottom at the deepest point of the lake—this is a non-negotiable requirement. Depending on findings from aerial imagery and the Boathouse scoping call, additional sampling locations may be added near inflows or known problem areas to better capture spatial variation.

Whenever possible, samples should be collected across multiple depths at the same time (or within a very short time window). This is especially important for accurately capturing vertical gradients, since key parameters like temperature and dissolved oxygen can change significantly with depth in stratified lakes.
