Overview

What is Lake Pulse

Lake Pulse is platform that enables homeowners, associations, businesses, and the broader community of stakeholders the ability to more effectively manage the helath & safety of the lake they all care about.

What is Telehealth

Telehealth refers to the use of digital communication technologies—such as apps, video calls, and remote monitoring tools—to deliver healthcare services and support from a distance.

So what does this have to do with lake health & safety?

Just as telehealth has revolutionized access to personal healthcare, similar tools and technologies can now be used to remotely monitor, assess, and manage lake health & safety. By combining in-situ and remote sensing, lab testing, and expert support, we can give lake stewards—whether professionals or concerned residents—the ability to track and improve lake conditions without needing to be on site full time. In essence, it’s telehealth for your lake—delivering expert insights and faster interventions from anywhere.

Why does Lake Pulse exist?

Most lakes in the U.S. lack up-to-date or consistent health and safety data. Lake Pulse was created to help communities close that gap by making it easier to collect, manage, and understand water quality data. We provide tools that support local sampling, automate analysis, and simplify sharing with neighbors, associations, and agencies. The goal is to make lake management more informed, transparent, and proactive.

Who is Lake Pulse for?

Lake Pulse is for anyone who recognizes the role that state agencies and consultants play; however, they also see the important role that everyone plays in taking care of the lake they care about. Lake Pulse, in essence, is unlocking lake-centric community science in a way that hasn't previously been done before.

How can Lake Pulse help me?

Lake Pulse gives you the tools to collect, manage, and share water quality data based on your goals and experience level. Whether you're just getting started or already deep into lake management, you can use the platform in whatever way fits best.

  • The Portal helps you organize and share your lake data. It supports historical records, external data from APIs, and any new data collected using Lake Pulse tools.
  • The Toolbox offers testing and monitoring options you can use to gather high-quality data across your lake.
  • The App keeps your community informed, and enables them to partcipate via FieldNotes and Field Images. It also offers general lake status, alerts, and specific project updates.
  • The Boathouse is our support center. If you have questions or need guidance, you can reach out for help anytime as a subscriber.

What am I missing out on if I stay Freemium?

As a Lake Pulse Freemium member you get some benefits, but you are missing out on these...

  • Data: Basic Subscription ($365 per year) enables you to access ALL health & safety data produced on your lake, past and present. This includes access to the Data Library, Data Sources, Data Partners, and Events Record.
  • Support: With the Basic Subscription, you also get access to the Boathouse, which is Lake Pulse's help desk, staffed by experts who will be able to help you with questions big and small.
  • Sync: As a Basic Subscriber, your purchases in the Lake Pulse Toolbox, if you utilize it, are automatically synched with your account on your lake, enabling you to more efficiently track what testing & monitoring you have done, plus the data produced API's (connects) to your Lake Pulse Portal.

Freemium is a good starting point, but you will miss out on these three important features and benefits of the Basic Membership.

Toolbox

Can I use the Toolbox without a subscription?

Yes, but the data produced by whatever testing and/or monitoring solution you buy will not sync with your lake's portal. You need to be a Basic Subscriber to sync your purchase, and the data it produces, with your Data Sources, which can only be accessed by subscribers.

Can I cancel my order?

We completely get it, we change our minds too! While we wish could, once an order is placed, we are unable to alter or cancel it at this time. We hope to have a cancellation window one day in the future.

Should the item(s) not work out, make sure to exchange for a preferred style or return for a refund. As a reminder, domestic return shipping is free.

What if I want to speak to someone?

We want to speak to you too! Contact us with any questions, concerns, or feedback. We will be sure to get back to you within 24 hours. However, please note that inquiries sent on Fridays will receive a reply the following Monday, but possibly sooner.

Lake Data

Who owns my data?

As a Lake Pulse user, you retain ownership of any data you generate using the Lake Pulse Toolbox. However, some caveats apply. Portions of the data available on your lake may have been sourced from public, taxpayer-funded databases or from publicly accessible websites, including those maintained by watershed associations, nonprofit organizations, or conservation groups. You legally can't 'own' this data, neither can Lake Pulse

All data you create, via the Toolbox, as a paying subscriber is your property. However, in accordance with our policy, any paying subscriber associated with your lake will have access to data produced by other subscribers. Similarly, you can access the data they have produced. There is no option to restrict this sharing within your lake's portal.

If you choose not to renew your subscription—or in the event that Lake Pulse discontinues operations—you will still be able to download and retain all data you generated through the platform.

Lake water ownership in the US

In the U.S., ownership of lake water is typically held in the public trust by state governments, which regulate its use through permitting systems. While navigable lakes are generally state-owned, non-navigable lakes can sometimes be privately owned, especially if entirely surrounded by private land. The federal government manages lakes on national lands (like parks and military bases) but usually defers to state water laws, unless special federal or tribal rights apply. Overall, lake water is a shared resource with complex ownership shaped by geography, law, and purpose.

Is it possible to have a 100% complete picture of my lake's health & safety?

Much like human health, it’s possible to invest heavily in tests and scans and still miss early signs of serious conditions like cancer. Similarly, lake health requires both proactive monitoring and smart data interpretation.

With Lake Pulse, you have the ability to generate as much data as needed, incorporate historical records, and analyze it all through powerful tools—giving you timely insights to maintain lake health and safety, or accelerate restoration efforts with greater confidence.
